Reflections on a life urban

Reflections on a life urban
A choice
Some are born here
Others migrate
Like myself
But why?
For the destitute asleep in our doorways?
For the congestion
The filth
We live the life urban
Expensive days
Sleepless nights
Forgetting the earth
Instead living in concrete
Instead living on top of each other
Packed in
Suffering
Suffocating
Some born here
Hoping to escape
Others trapped
By steel
By intersections
By life
By themselves
And myself
Stuck in place
In this place
This space
So crowded
Dirty
Dreams come here
Some dreams die
Some fulfilled
It keeps us waiting
Biding our time
In this urban hell
We choose to call home

City at Night

City at night
I’ve passed these streets before
That building
Made love there once
In a different time
Same structure
Same kind of night
What’s different now?
Is me
I still pass by
I still look up to that second floor window
Sad I could almost forget
Who I was then
And that person I was with
And where is she now?
Where am I?
Passing through this city at night

The Midnight Run

The midnight run
Storefront after storefront
Closed
Late night religion
And I keep walking by
What are you looking for here?
What will you find?
At the end of this street
The end of the line
Maybe the end of me
We run
In these nights
Storefront after storefront
Face after face
Street after street
To beat the sunrise

Clearcutting

Reflections on a city changing
Looking back on her past lives
These streets
The faces
Past the learning stage
Out in the real world now
And there’s no way back
When time was on your side
When at the very least
There was hope
And your dreams
And a maybe possibility
Now locked in
To this life
To the current
You try and fight
To break tide
But one moment down
Can end it all

Night Dive

Night Dive
Why won’t this light change?
I’ve got to get out of here
Out of this place
And this cycle
These dreams
Night diver
Plunge deep
Into the cold
Of night
Lights reflect
From the surface
Of you
Soaring
Wind whistle
Windows down
Night diver
Driver
Drive far away
From this place
These memories

Regolith

What’s holding us together?
Just gravity these days
Or time
Scattered
Like dust
Scattered souls
Held together
By time
By place
On a journey
Across a great plane
You and I
Tomorrow will be
Yesterday was
Now is
Scattered
Layered
In the stratum
Like us
Is it will
Force
That holds us together
Holds us down
To this world
This place
This collection of all things

A secret world

A secret world
Streetlight nights
Driving fast
Through this darkness
Illuminated
A kiss digital
The music of her airwaves
On this night
In this secret world
I’ve split myself in two
Both halves for her
Tonight
Tomorrow
I believe in maybe always
On these streets
Under these lights
Through her in darkness
In my secret world

Return to the secret room

Return to the secret room
To the memories
To the places
And the times
So many years later
We show some wear
Some scars
But we’ve built armies
And still we stand
Under red light
Under noise
In a room full of strangers
And destiny
I see you
Still behind that black curtain
Preparing for ceremony
And we will all move with you
In unison
Again and again
We will follow
But more importantly
I will follow
Again and again
To that place
Deep inside you
In years past
Now
And the years to come
Into that secret place
That only we know
